The Wildlife Trust’s Nature & Wellbeing programmes empower people and their communities to connect with local environments to learn new skills, build resilience, meet new people and improve their physical health and mental wellbeing.
In Greater Manchester, programmes are delivered from Philips Park in Bury, and at Seven Acres Nature Reserve in Bolton.
Weekly sessions, led by a fully trained member of staff, vary by season and group, but will all relate back to at least one of the five ways to wellbeing:
- Connect
- Be Active
- Take Notice
- Learn
- Give
This Autumn, activities have included:
Creating nature diaries from colourful autumn leaves, seeds, and late flowers where they will record their connection to the natural world and highlight how this has helped boost their wellbeing.
Taking part in wellbeing walks centred around discovering what types of fungi exist in the local park.
Learning new skills, such as whittling hazel.
Taking notice of nature by taking pictures of beautiful colours and textures of the autumn leaves and capturing them on camera.
Building a bug snug for insects to shelter in over winter.
