The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) are currently running two projects in Greater Manchester which improve habitats and support people’s wellbeing; one is in Sale and one is in Clayton.
The TCV team want as many people from as many different backgrounds as possible to access these projects and benefit from all that nature has to offer. Their nature-based activities are located in community settings to help engage people from ethnic minorities in a familiar setting.
If you are interested in organizing a free, bespoke community group workshop or coming along to an outdoor activity, please email rebecca.collingwood@tcv.org.uk
Nature and Wellbeing in Sale
- Sale Water Park
- Mondays 1.00pm – 2.30pm
This project involves free sessions that aims to connect people with nature and water to improve their wellbeing through nature-based activities.
Activities will be held in a social group setting with brews and biscuits and will include things like nature ID; nature crafts; small scale habitat improvements; and campfires. The sessions and location are designed to be accessible, and participants will be supported to join in with activities and conversations at a pace they are comfortable with.
Anybody over 17 years is welcome and can be referred. We would especially like to invite those who are experiencing poor mental health; have difficulty accessing green spaces and nature; are restricted to where they can go due to lack of transport
We will be trialling the offer of free minibus transport from community venue locations for people who would otherwise struggle to attend.
Nature and Wellbeing in Clayton
- Clayton Vale (meet at entrance near the tuck shop, Berry Brow)
- Thursday starting at 10am
The sessions will involve both practical conservation activities such as woodland management, pond care, path maintenance and wellbeing activities such as accessible nature based activities such as willow weaving, nature crafts, nature identification walks.
Anyone over 17 years is welcome to join – this is a great way to spend time in nature, meet new people and help the environment.
We are especially encouraging people to attend who are looking to develop skills while looking for employment. They will be able to learn things such as communication, team work, leadership as well as practical skills – great if they are keen on a job in the environmental sector.
We may also be able to offer minibus pick up from a community location around Clayton Vale if transport there is an issue.
