Looking to join a nature-based activity to improve your own health & wellbeing?
The following partners have been providing Green Social Prescribing as part of the nature for Health Test & Learn project in 2021/22.

Please visit their websites for more information about upcoming activities:
Providing opportunities such as nature activity kits, cycling, walks, outdoor exercise and education in Rochdale and breaking down barriers.
Identifying and filling gaps in therapy and treatment in natural surroundings, such as creating growing spaces, drop-in sessions and conservation training.
Testing what kind of activities best attract those most in need in Bury, as well as providing volunteering opportunities for the community.
Piloting food growing schemes with the most deprived communities in Manchester, providing both social activity and access to free healthy food.
Greater Manchester-wide initiatives to identify and engage disinterested and excluded people by developing training for workers, a digital and physical resource exchange and stakeholder group.
The Royal Horticultural Society is the UK’s leading gardening charity. They aim to enrich everyone’s life through plants, and make the UK a greener and more beautiful place.
You may find more organisations delivering nature-based activities in Greater Manchester on our #GMNatureforhealth social media feed. Although these are not all approved providers, you can follow links to their social media feed to find out more about them.

As part of #nationalsoilday our participants created a leaf-mold at our St Gabriels site in Prestwich! We hope we can use the fruits of our labour next year when planting our wildlife garden!

We’ve been getting into the festive spirit over in Bury. Our groups have been busy making a variety of decorations using natural materials. The bird feeder wreaths went down very well with many of our feathery friends at Philips Park!

DID YOU KNOW that many schools in Greater Manchester are located near busy main roads with no barriers?
The result? Air pollution from cars is being regularly breathed in by the children playing at school, leading to potential long-term health conditions 🤔
We wanted to do something about that!
We worked with Balfour Beatty on the Breathe Easy Schools project at Holy Trinity Primary School, installing green screen barriers to create a healthier play environment for the children🌲
In 2022, we improved access to nature in 33 schools across Greater Manchester!

“I get on with a lot of the people and I see us all coming together and looking after the plants even when the sessions are over”
Jean was feeling down after the death of her husband and rarely spent time out of the house. That all changed when, thanks to support from Rochdale Council, the Groundwork team hosted a series of planting activities in her nearby park.
These days, you`ll find Jean in the centre of community greening, looking after the new planters and teaching others about the importance of nature for health 💚
We`ve helped over 300 people feel more connected to their communities this year, and we hope to carry this on for many years to come!

This morning one of our Bury groups began creating a dead-hedge. This forms a barrier to protect the wildflowers we are planting soon 🌼🌷🌻 The hedge is also a great home for wildlife especially bugs! 🐞🐌🪱🕷
