Using photography to connect with nature

In collaboration with Pennine Care’s Early Intervention Teams, Groundwork Greater Manchester are supporting residents in Brinnington and the surrounding area who have severe mental health issues, onto a Green Social Prescribing programme.

The Groundwork team are inviting patients to participate in a 12-week programme at Green Thumbs allotment where they take part in a range of therapeutic horticultural activities, including food cultivation, garden care, tree planting, and bushcraft.

One part of the 12-week programme is encouraging people to Take Notice in nature.

In September Groundwork organised a photography walk around Reddish Vale Country Park, where the team shared tips for taking good photographs outdoors, covering things like composition and how to deal with lighting. The group had an open discussion about the benefits of being outdoors, and how photography can help us to slow down and take more notice of the things around us.

Groundwork Marketing & Comms Assistant and photographer, Chelsea shared her love of taking photographs in nature with the the group, adding:

Photography can be a great creative output for when you’re feeling anxious. It allows you to focus on the little things around you like the changing colour of leaves and moss growing on the trees and feel more connected to your environment.

Here’s a few pictures from the day:
